About ARIIA

For India to emerge as a global innovation hub, the youth of our country, especially in higher education institutions (HEIs) need to play a crucial role in creating a sustainable innovation ecosystem. Hence, ideally, all HEIs should have a comprehensive and functional mechanism to convert research into innovations. This ecosystem will encourage, inspire, and nurture young students by exposing them to new ideas and processes resulting in innovative activities in their formative years.

To ensure that Innovation is the primary fulcrum of all HEIs, the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Govt. of India has introduced ‘Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA)’ to systematically rank educational institutions and universities primarily on innovation related indicators. The main premise of ARIIA ranking is -

• considers all major indicators commonly used globally to rank the most innovative education institutions/ universities in the world.
• focus on reorientation of mindset towards building ecosystems that encourage high-quality research, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
• focus on the quality of innovations.
• measures the real impact created by these innovations nationally and internationally.
• provide direction to institutions for future development and make them globally competitive and at the forefront of innovation.

NITK Surathkal has been categorized as a 'Band A' institution (rank between 11-25) in the category of ‘Institute of National Importance, Central Universities & CFTIs’ in ARIIA 2021 rankings.
