The Institute Innovation Council (IIC) of NITK Surathkal was established in 2018-19 with Prof. Srinikethan G (Dept. of Chemical Engg) as President, and Dr. Sowmya Kamath S (Dept. of Information Technology) as the Convener. The IIC undertakes various innovation and entrepreneurship-related activities to systematically foster the culture of innovation in NITK Surathkal. The NITK IIC has sought to motivate, disseminate, and enhance innovative mindset among students and faculty of the Institute. NITK stakeholders have consistently demonstrated our innovative ecosystem by incorporating innovative practices in governance and developing impactful innovations that have contributed significantly to nation-building and society in general. 

The NITK IIC continuously strives to promote the innovation ecosystem by organizing workshops, hackathons, seminars, expert lectures, training programs, and skill development programs. Regular interactions with entrepreneurs, angel investors, industry experts, and professionals are conducted for the benefit of the stakeholders.  NITK IIC also works with student clubs, CoEs, NITK STEP, and other entities to foster a collaborative ecosystem conducive to promoting student and faculty innovators. 

The NITK IIC is currently headed by Prof. K V Gangadharan (Professor of Mech. Engg and Head, Center for System Design) and Dr. Suprabha K R (School of Management) as the convener. Prof. Venkatesa Perumal (Professor-in-charge, NITK STEP) is the NISP Coordinator and Dr. Sowmya Kamath S (Dept. of Information Technology) is serving as the Nodal officer for Atal Ranking ARIIA 2019, 2020, 2021.  The IIC team consists of 5 faculty members, 4 Innovation ambassadors, 4 external members, and 15 student members from across multiple disciplines and programs.
